Grinding, squeaking or banging?
Noisy garage door
A grinding, squeaking or rattling door usually comes down to dry or worn rollers and hinges. A tune-up starts at $115 and a full set of nylon rollers at $210. One loud bang is a different story: that's usually a broken spring.

- Listen for where it comes from: the rollers in the tracks, the hinges between sections, or the opener on the ceiling.
- Heard one loud bang instead? Stop using the door and look at the spring above it.
- Book a tune-up online, or call and describe the sound.
Where the noise comes from
Steel rollers wear out of round and grind in the track, hinges wear at the pin, and a loose opener chain slaps the rail. Lube and adjustment quiet a lot of it. Worn rollers get replaced.
